Memphis Door History

What began in 1972 as a way to survive has evolved into an almanac of success. Charles Salvaggio expanded on a concept he recognized while working on a Sears and Roebuck carpet installation crew. In 1972, shag carpet was all the rage and Charles realized that after the carpet was installed all of the interior doors would drag requiring them to be cut down to properly clear. Charles purchased a saw and built a straight edge to handle the task. The simple necessity evolved into a thriving business. Over the next 25 years, the business grew into a full-service door and hardware installation company.

Over 44 years later, Memphis Door & Hardware continues to evolve and grow and is still a family business. Tony Salvaggio - Charles’s oldest son - owns and operates the company along with his wife Tami. As a young boy, Tony would frequently ride with his father on the service truck and at a young age was able to mortise and install an exterior door as taught by his father. Today, Memphis Door & Hardware is the oldest continuously operated door installation company in the Memphis area. Services continue to expand but the same attention to quality sales, service, and installation has remained.

"Men admire the man who can organize their wishes and thoughts in stone and wood and steel and brass."

-Ralph Waldo Emerson
